UCSB registration guide: prepare before your pass starts.

Updated: May 2026

Registration feels worse when you decide everything live. The smarter move is building a few workable versions of your quarter before your pass opens so one closed section does not break the whole plan.

What to do before registration

  1. Know your must-have classes versus nice-to-have options.
  2. Build one strong main schedule and at least one backup.
  3. Check times, workload, and section differences before the rush starts.
  4. Make sure you understand GOLD well enough to move quickly.

Why backups matter so much

Registration usually gets stressful because one class closes and students have nothing ready behind it. A backup plan is not pessimistic. It is just how you keep the whole quarter from collapsing.

Helpful pairing

GOLD is where the official registration actions happen. Lagoon is useful around that process because it helps you think through the actual week you are building, not just the registration transaction itself.
